Communities in Schools (CIS) of Chicago is the local affiliate of the CIS national organization, and is the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization. They strive to facilitate the success of America’s youth, both inside and outside of the classroom. CIS Chicago’s ultimate goal is to help elevate the state of Chicago graduation rate to 100 percent. The organization relies heavily on community involvement in an effort to surround students with the necessary support to not only stay in school, but stay on track to graduate.
“CIS creates opportunities and resources for Chicago Public School Students which make a concrete difference in each student’s ability to graduate,” said Mark Brady, member of the Board of Directors of Communities in Schools of Chicago.
By providing both services and support, CIS has tactfully pioneered integrative programs designed to target individuals students while still providing essential programs and services to entire schools. Whether it’s integrated student support, mentoring programs, or mental health programs, CIS has identified areas of need among a large group of students. They then craft structured programs designed to address the identified needs promoting education and success.
